Fake Euro license plates, or performance badges on base models?
I vote fake euro license plates. I can see why someone would put performance badges on their car, especially like my wagons M grill, but that’s because mine is an M-sport. But I find no reasons to justify the purchase of a fake license plate to pretend your car is an import.
To the guy in my complex, your jetta se is not an import.
Rant over, here’s some tunes:

Badges. Because what if they did Euro delivery? Or the owner is from Europe?

We have fake euro plates in Australia. Nobody is pretending their car is imported, and I don’t really have a problem with it. The state will let you have a euro-style plate on your euro-style car, cool.
Conversely...Putting fake sport badges on a shit car is lying to to the world , and over something so trivial. I find that loathsome. I think it’s a sure sign of low intelligence - to actually think that it matters to anyone.
Probably, the only people who will notice at all are those who can tell you’re lying.

I think Japanese plates on vintage Japanese cars looks cool, but they’re a lot less pretentious. I thought about getting one for my old Loyale, but just couldn’t be bothered. I kind of want a vintage Japanese moto plate for my Honda.

I saw a Lexus a few days ago with a euro plate. I don’t even.

I like that U.K. plate, it's the correct pre- Charles Wright font in pre-1970s silver on black background. Classic, elegant look.

I forget often that my car has front and rear euro plates, but I don’t think anyone would confuse them for actual plates. The only other euro plates on cars that I’ve seen near me are European delivery cars, like a really nice APR S3.
Slightly besides the point, but I’ve seen a car on Nantucket that has two Mass plates front and back, so 4 in total, and that’s just super confusing and probably very illegal.
Overall, it depends on the car, most of the time it’s cool, but you an always find a shitty one.

this is a logical explanation, I’d give more leighway to the expat european then a car that was built in europe.

I can see why it would be common in Australia, but stateside these are simply novelty and serve no purpose like the european style in your country.
but you’re right, the usual person who uses fake performance badges is the one simply looking for the “brand” entitlement. if they can fool the mass they’re fine with upsetting us opponauts

Hot take: I like fake Euro plates, as long as they’re done tastefully like above and when they’re on a car from a province/state that doesn’t require front plates. Rectangular front plates over Euro front plates are stupid though.

I used to have detailing/show plates in a similar style.

I’ve got no problem with the plates. I think cars should have front plates, and I think the Euro-plates often look better since the car was designed with them in mind. Frankly I think DMVs should be cashing in by offering Euro-format plates for an additional fee, I think there’d definitely be interest, and it’s not like they don’t already offer zillions of different plate designs.

Yeah, the ostentatiousness of the fake plate makes it so much worse. Badges are something you only notice if you care & are paying attention.

Wearing fake plates might actually
get you fined here but fake
performance badges only get frowns. Luckily the fake plates isn’t a big things here.
